CAMPILLOS: is situated in the western area of the Antequera region.
Most of the land is cultivated with olive groves and cereals;
to the south of the town there is beautiful landscape formed by the
Guadalteba and Guadalhorce natural reservoirs. A self contained agricultural town
with approximately 8000 inhabitants. The town is well laid out, has wide flat streets,
a friendly sociable atmosphere, easy paced and has bags of traditional Andalucian rural charm.
Shops: Here in Campillos there is a Mercadona supermarket.
There many other small privately run family shops, where you will feel welcome to
practice your Spanish. Also in the Plaza there is an indoor market where you can
buy fresh vegetables, meat and fish. It has a wonderful British Supermarket
(located next to Mercadona) which stocks many different British foods and products.
On Tuesdays they have a Market (mainly clothes, shoes, pots & pans, plants spice
and selections of local produce i.e.: honey & olives)
Bars and Restaurants: - There are a number of really good bar restaurants here,
serving freshly cooked Andalucía dishes, menu of the day (3 courses and drink included)
generally costs between 6.50 to 7.50 euros. There is a newly opened Chinese restaurant,
also serving a very good value menu of the day, as well as a varied evening menu.
Education: The town boasts excellent schools and colleges;
Also the adult education centre presently offers free Spanish classes to foreigners,
2 hours a night, 5 nights a week.
Children: There is plenty here to entertain the young children including
an indoor ball park, most weekends there are bouncy castles erected in the
park area as well as a lovely safe play area with swings, slides etc Children
are always included and catered to in the local restaurants. Although they always
eat the same food as the adults, (no kid’s menus on offer!)
Accommodation: Hostal San Francisco; located Town Centre, Hotel los Chopos,
5 minute drive from town centre
Health: In Campillos there is a public health centre (24 hour doctor’s surgery)
and three pharmacies, and 2 dentists
Public transport: Daily buses travel to and from Malaga and Antequera.
Campillos train station links to the nearby Bobadilla station which goes
to both Malaga and Ronda.Santa Ana train station is only 10 minutes drive
away there you will find the main line running to Spain’s great cities of
Madrid and Barcelona, travel by the AVE bullet train which makes the journey
to the city of Madrid less than 2.5 hours long. (Quicker than driving to
Malaga airport then flying there!)Currently in development close to the
Cordoba Road is the Antequera Airport due to open in 2009 servicing both passenger
and merchandise flights.
Nightlife: There are several late night/all night weekend drinks bars, disco
bars And a large discothèque called Megatron (holds up to 1000 people) opens 1am till 8pm
Fiestas: Campillos has a number of fiestas, celebrations, and processions every
year, the most intriguing and spectacular being Semana Santa; Easter /Holy week
consisting of about 10 processions on different nights/days, with the whole town
coming out to participate or spectate, the solemn carrying of the enormous effigies
of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary throughout the evening until about 2am.
Campillos Feria usually falls the 3rd week of August, families come out at midnight
to enjoy the live music events, many fairground rides, stalls, food & drink and a
jolly good time!
Go Karting:
10 minutes drive from Campillos, there is one of the largest out door All weather go-kart tracks
in Europe. Campillos is less than one hour by car from many typical Andalusian villages and
